June is Homeownership Month at HUD, a time when we
recognize the accomplishments of the Federal Housing
Administration (FHA) in having made the dream of
homeownership a reality for 33 million American
households since its inception in 1934. Dozens of events
are scheduled across the country this month to honor
these accomplishments, and to raise awareness of FHA
resources available to the homebuying public.

In recognition of Homeownership Month, HUD's Office of
Policy Development & Research hosted a public forum on
June 1st featuring a new set of research reports that
address barriers to Hispanic homeownership. The studies
provide information on the extent of homeownership gaps
between Hispanics and non-Hispanic whites, the causes of
these gaps, and what is known about the scale and
effectiveness of programs designed to help Hispanics
become homeowners. The studies will serve as an important
reference for anyone interested in understanding the
barriers that Hispanics face in the housing and mortgage
markets. They can be downloaded for free
