OT: Metro status of previous locations in the post-1997 AHS data

The post-1997 AHS data do not have the variable that shows metropolitan
status of previous locations (e.g. central city or suburbs of the same
MSA, outside the MSA, and abroad) while the pre-1997 AHS data
(1985-1995) have this variable. AHS does not collect this information
anymore, or they just do not make this information public?

I am thinking of applying for confidential data access to the Center for
Economic Studies (CES). What geographical level would be available for
locations of current and previous residence if my proposal was approved
for access to pre- or post- 1997 AHS confidential data?

I would appreciate anyone answering my questions...
