AHS: Updated 2003 National File

HUD and the Census Bureau have released a new version of the
American Housing Survey 2003 microdata public use file.  The
new file updates the WEIGHT variable.  In the words of the
Census Bureau,

"The Census Bureau discovered that when they released the
final 2003 AHS-N Public Use File (PUF) to HUD they
Inadvertently used data files that contained preliminary
versions of the 1980-based and 1990-based weights, not the
final weights.  The Census Bureau has corrected
the weights on the file and HUD is releasing a new 2003-N
PUF.  Only the PUF File  is affected, the paper copies of the
publications, PDF and HTML are correct."

The new dataset is available for download in SAS and ASCII
format from the HUD USER web site,
https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html .  The
"2003 national AHS documentation," which can be downloaded
from that same web page, includes updated descriptive
statistics and a new file which compares weighted frequencies
for selected  variables using the old and the updated
weights.  Fortunately, all differences are very small,
amounting to a few tenths of one percent.
