An updated document about dependent interviewing in the American Housing Survey is now available for download in PDF format from the HUD USER web site,

https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html#supplements

Dependent interviewing is a technique used in longitudinal surveys (such as the AHS) to improve data quality. Data collected in previous interviews is used to check the answers in current interviews. This is especially useful for data items that change little, if ever, such as year built. The document explains how dependent interviewing is applied to AHS items. The update adds information about the 2009 survey.

We are continuing work on the quality control of the 2009 national AHS public use file. We still intend to release the data in late June, barring unforeseen complications.
