Housing Highlights in the President's Budget: Using and Investing in Research
Earlier this month, President Obama submitted his administration's final budget proposal to Congress. The first phase of Western U Plaza was completed in December 2015, providing 60 affordable housing units and 3,000 square feet of community space adjacent to the METRO Green Line's Western Avenue station in St. Paul, Minnesota. Collaboration among many public, private, and philanthropic partners made Western U Plaza possible. The project promotes equitable transit-oriented development in one of the city's most diverse but lowest-income neighborhoods.

Moving Toward a Sustainable Future: Three Models of Regional Planning
HUD's Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant program encouraged coordination among local jurisdictions and planning agencies to address regional challenges. Supported by the program, grant recipients in Northeast Ohio, Western North Carolina, and Washington's Puget Sound brought together local stakeholders to systematically study the conditions of each region, and to develop a long-term vision and policy framework that integrates the needs of all residents and communities.
