Advisory Committee on Data for Evidence Building
In the leadership message, general deputy assistant secretary for PD&R Todd M. Richardson discusses his recent joint presentation, with fellow evaluation officers from the U.S. Departments of Labor, Education, and Commerce, to the evidence team at the Office of Management and Budget. The presentation addressed the departments' shared use of administrative data, barriers that still exist to sharing such information, and plans for future work.

Steady Growth in the Phoenix HMA as Area Attracts Many Business Expansions and Relocations
The latest article in a series focusing on HUD’s Comprehensive Housing Market Analyses (CHMAs) examines the Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler Housing Market Area (Phoenix HMA). Located in south central Arizona and home to nearly two-thirds of the population of the state, the Phoenix HMA experienced employment growth that outpaced the national average from 2011–19, and growth is expected to continue more modestly in the next three years. In July 2020, both the home sales and rental markets in the HMA were balanced.

Honoring East Austin’s Past and Preserving an Affordable Future
Opened in 2018, The Chicon is a 28-unit mixed-income condominium complex in East Austin, Texas. The Chestnut Neighborhood Revitalization Corporation, an affordable housing nonprofit, developed the project as a city-designated land trust, which protects its affordable status through the use of deed restrictions even as units are sold. Three-quarters of the condos are affordable to moderate-income households, and all eight of the ground-floor commercial spaces were sold as ownership units at below-market prices to retail occupants approved by a volunteer board.
