Research priorities in this category will most closely align to the “Advancing Economic Opportunity” goal in HUD’s strategic framework. The goal is to create a clear path to self-sufficiency by focusing on health, educational attainment, and financial stability of HUD assisted households. Research needs in this category would focus on a broad swath of HUD programs, including those for households experiencing homelessness, facing health challenges, and seeking to improve their labor market outcomes. Useful ideas about research gaps could relate to how these programs can achieve better results through understanding barriers, coordinating efforts with other partners, using best practices, and improving access to supportive services.
