Message from PD&R Leadership:
International Engagement at a Distance: OECD highlight
In the leadership message, director of PD&R’s International and Philanthropic Affairs Division Cynthia Campbell discusses highlights of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s (OECD) biannual Working Party on Urban Policy meetings. The OECD’s primary mission is to promote economic policy and conduct evidence-based research that addresses social, economic, and environmental issues. The OECD and its researchers have posted several studies examining the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and have continued their research in several other disciplines.

Building an Affordable Community in Louisville, Colorado
Over the past two decades, the small city of Louisville in Boulder County, Colorado, has struggled to maintain housing affordability for low- and middle-income households as the area’s growth in home prices has outpaced its growth in wages. Kestrel, a new master-planned community in Louisville, is part of a larger effort to address the region’s affordable housing shortage. Built by the Boulder County Housing Authority (BCHA), this multigenerational project sits on what was one of the last large vacant lots near Louisville’s amenity-rich downtown.

Research:
Family Options Study: Long-Term Tracking Project
Launched in 2008, the HUD-funded Family Options Study, the largest experimental study of its kind, was designed to evaluate the effects of different housing and service interventions — long-term housing subsidy, community-based rapid rehousing, project-based transitional housing, and usual care — on families experiencing homelessness. A recent report, Family Options Study: Long-term Tracking Project, documents the research team’s efforts to reconnect with the study families for the first time since 2014.
