AFFH Data

This page provides downloadable public use files for the data used in the the AFFH Data and Mapping Tool (AFFH-T).

The AFFH-T is a free, interactive mapping and reporting tool for analyzing affordable housing, demographics and measures of opportunity across localities and regions covering all US States, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. The AFFH-T is intended to inform state and local housing and community development agencies and planning, housing advocates, researchers and the general public.

The tool compiles data from a wide variety of sources, including the decennial U.S. Census, the American Community Suvey and HUD’s Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategies (CHAS) data.

The most recent release (AFFHT007) is from December 2024 and will be provided below on this landing page. Previous versions of the data (AFFHT-0001 through 006), which were updated continuously from 2015 through 2020 are provided under the Previous Years tab below.

Each AFFH-T release has an accompanying downloadable data file that can be used for supplementary analyses. Each of the raw data files is a zipfile, with a data dictionary, crosswalk files, and multiple CSV/Excel files at the block group, tract, jurisdiction, region, and other levels.

Data

For the public use data version AFFHT-0007, HUD also developed a series of additional tables specifically for use by Public Housing Agencies. A series of tables designed specifically for PHAs, with relevant data on community and tenant demographics will be provided here.

In addition, HUD prepared additional tables with supplemental tables for public housing agencies with 10,000 or more units of combined public housing and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. These will also be available for download soon on this page.
