HUD recently released the second quarterly report of
U.S. Housing Market Conditions for 2008. The report
contains a comparative analysis of housing production,
marketing, affordability and interest rates, and of
the multifamily housing sector with the previous
quarter and the second quarter of 2007. Updated and
detailed national data, overviews of economic and
housing market trends within each HUD region, and
historical trends in national and regional housing
markets are regular features of this report.

The new issue's feature article, "Using HMDA and
Income Leverage to Examine Current Mortgage Market
Turmoil," demonstrates the use of Home Mortgage
Disclosure Act data and introduces a measure of
leverage and payment risk with which to examine
dimensions of the current mortgage market volatility.

In-depth housing market profiles are also provided for
the following areas: Albuquerque, New Mexico; Austin-
Round Rock, Texas; Bremerton-Silverdale, Washington;
Chattanooga, Tennessee-Georgia; Dallas-Plano-Irving,
Texas; Lawrence, Kansas; Mobile, Alabama;
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Phoenix, Arizona;
Sacramento-Arden-Arcade-Roseville, California; San
Antonio, Texas; Spartanburg, South Carolina; and St.
George, Utah.
