Characteristics of Innovative Production Home Builders
is a new study from the Partnership for Advancing
Technology in Housing (PATH), which is coordinated by
HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research. The
report presents the views of large homebuilders about
which factors influence innovation and adoption of
building technologies in residential construction.

The new study is a companion to PATH's earlier report,
The Diffusion of Innovation in the Residential Building
Industry, which focused on smaller scale early adopters
and trendsetters in the housing industry. The new
publication shows that internal factors such as the
size, organization, and strategic focus of firms
influence the pace of innovation, while external trends
like rising energy and land costs also will affect
future adoption of innovative technology.
