Manufactured Homes: Saving Money by Saving Energy

HUD.GOV HUDUser.gov
eList
This new publication presents practical, energy-saving
tips, techniques, and recommendations for owners of
manufactured (mobile) homes. Its release is particularly
timely because energy costs are rising, technologies have
advanced, and any home could benefit from cost-effective
measures that improve energy efficiency. The guide
explains and illustrates how energy retrofits for
manufactured homes can lower energy costs, protect
against future energy cost increases, improve comfort,
increase resale value, and enhance environmental
stewardship.

The guide contains information that helps the homeowner
recognize which energy performance gains are possible in
their particular home. Energy saving techniques,
organized into ten different categories, are complemented
with information on the approximate cost and skill level
associated with each technique, strategies that are
appropriate for various climates, and an indication of
which tips and techniques will lead to greater energy
savings. In addition, the guide presents lifestyle tips
for saving energy and lists sources for additional
information. The Manufactured Housing Research Alliance,
in cooperation with the Department of Housing and Urban
Development and the Partnership for Advancing Technology
in Housing, prepared this guide for publication.
