AHS 2001-2003 CINCH and Rental Dynamics Datasets

The datasets for 2001-2003 Components of Inventory Change (CINCH) and Rental Dynamics studies are now available for download from HUD USER, https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/cinch.html#2001-2003

The CINCH program uses the longitudinal features of the American
Housing Survey to look at the changes to individual housing units
from one survey to the next. This provides information on the
characteristics of units entering and leaving the housing stock.
It also allows us to trace how housing units change over time.

The Rental Dynamics program uses CINCH to examine changes in the
affordability of rental housing. The program classifies such
housing into affordability categories and traces whether they
become more or less affordable, or whether they enter or leave
the rental stock.

Tabular reports on the 2001-2003 study have been available on the
web site for some time. We have now released datasets that can
be linked to the standard AHS national datasets for the two
years, so that you can produce your own custom tabulations. The
new dataset includes the forward- and backward-looking weights,
the CINCH status in the beginning and ending period, the
affordability status in the beginning and ending period, and the
AHS CONTROL variable for linking to the standard datasets. The
new data are available in SAS and ASCII formats. Copies of the
SAS programs used in the study are also available for download.
