An updated variable name index file is available for download from https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html .

The variable name index is a file which crosstabulates all of the variable names that have ever been used in an AHS public use file (PUF) with all of the PUFs, from 1973 to the present. Thus, the file can be used to tell the years in which particular variables occur.

The file is distributed as a comma separated values (csv) ASCII file, to facilitate importing into spreadsheets, databases, and statistical packages.

The current update simply adds the new income limit variables in the updated 2003 PUF.
