AHS: Suggestions for Programming Tips

HUD.GOV HUDUser.gov
eList

One of the suggestions about improving the AHS codebook that we received recently is that we should include a section on programming tips or examples for new users. While I'm not sure whether this information should be in the codebook, the FAQ, or a separate document, the basic idea is a good one.

Please send me your ideas about what specific items should be included. I'm especially interested in replies from new users of the AHS, since you are more likely to remember what confused you at the beginning.

Just to get the ball rolling, here are a few ideas:

1. How to get the total number of housing units.
2. How to get the total number of occupied housing units.
3. How to get the total number of occupied housing uints, by tenure.
4. How to get the characteristics of the householder.
5. How to prepare a breakdown by race and ethnicity.

Please reply to the list (ahs@huduser.gov) so that everyone can see your suggestions. Remember that if you just hit your "reply" button, your reply will go only to me.
