From: American Housing Survey (AHS) ListServ <ahs@huduser.gov>

An updated version of the ASCII data dictionary for the American Housing Survey has been posted on the HUD USER web site, https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html#codebooks. This update makes the data dictionary current for the 2009 public use files.

The ASCII data dictionary is a bare-bones version of the codebook, containing just the entries that describe the variables in the data files. All of the additional documentation in the regular codebook (which you can find at the same URL) has been stripped out. As the name of the document implies, it is in plain ASCII (text) format. We provide this form of documentation because some of our users prefer it to the PDF.

Note that the "ASCII" in the name of the document refers to the format of the document itself; the information in the data dictionary applies equally well to the SAS and ASCII versions of the dataset.
