Cincinnati, Ohio: University Helps Redevelop Uptown Community

HUD USER publishes examples of anchor institutions' case studies in communities and regions across the country. The most recent example details the University of Cincinnati, a major partner in the revitalization of Uptown Cincinnati, where the university's campus is located.

The University of Cincinnati (UC) plays an active role in redevelopment efforts, job growth, and long-term improvement in its community by establishing and supporting community development corporations (CDCs) that encourage investment in the Uptown neighborhoods. One such CDC, the Uptown Consortium, is a collaboration among the university and other area anchor institutions that uses New Market tax credit awards to leverage private investment throughout Uptown. A recent consortium effort joined two projects, U Square @ the Loop, a mixed-use development with an affordable housing component, and Solid Opportunities for Advancement and Retention, a workforce training program run by the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati.

Visit HUD USER's Case Studies page to learn more about the University of Cincinnati's work in Uptown and to view other promising examples of how communities and regions across the nation are supporting neighborhood revitalization.
