New AHS Webinars and Updates to the AHS Table Creator Now on Census.gov

HUD and Census have added two new webinars to census.gov designed to help you better understand the value and benefits of the American Housing Survey. We've also made a series of changes to the AHS Table Creator to improve users' experience with the popular online tool.

New AHS Webinars:

• New: Comparing the American Housing Survey and the American Community Survey Webinar
  The American Housing Survey (AHS) and the American Community Survey (ACS) are valuable sources of information for studying the U.S. housing stock. Both surveys ask questions on similar housing topics. Which source should you use to answer your housing question? This webinar will describe both surveys and help you decide when to use AHS and ACS, and when to use both! Now available https://www.census.gov/library/video/2020/comparing-ahs-and-acs.html.

• New: The American Housing Survey Public Use File Microdata: 2015 and Beyond Webinar
  This webinar focuses on the American Housing Survey microdata and related products, including the web-based codebook, estimates for user verification, and other help guides and documentation. Now available https://www.census.gov/library/video/2020/ahs-public-use-microdata.html.

AHS Table Creator Updates:

• New: Worst Case Needs Bygroup for 2011 and 2013
  The 2011 and 2013 AHS Table Creators now include Worst Case Needs Bygroup column variable for 2011 and 2013. The Worst Case Needs column variable appears in the Variable 1/Variable 2 drop-down menu and is only available at the National level. Please note: There are some slight differences between the Table Creator estimate and HUD's 2011 and 2013 Worst Case Needs Report due to minor updates to weighting variables that were implemented after the publication of the HUD report.

• Updated HUD-Assisted Status Bygroup Labels for All Years
  Some column labels have been renamed and footnotes added to provide more information about what is included in each of the HUD-Assisted Status Bygroup categories. The actual estimates have not changed.

• 2019 AHS Release Updates
  The 2019 Items Booklet is now posted on the Technical Documentation. Now available https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/ahs/tech-documentation/def-errors-changes.html.

• AHS Bibliography Updates
  An updated AHS Bibliography is now posted on the Research page.
