HUD has released the first quarterly report of U.S.
Housing Market Conditions for 2007, which contains a
comparative analysis with the previous quarter and with
the first quarter of 2006. The report also looks at
national and regional data, as well as historical trends
in housing markets, production, and affordability.

The feature article of this issue, "First-Time
Homebuyers: Update from the 2005 American Housing
Survey," updates and extends first-time homebuyer
information, based on the most recent data from the
American Housing Survey. The article examines
characteristics of first-time homebuyers and compares
the results to those of recent homebuyers and other
homeowners. In-depth housing market profiles are also
provided for Austin-Round Rock, Texas; Burlington-South
Burlington, Vermont; Corpus Christi, Texas;
Indianapolis, Indiana; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Phoenix,
Arizona; Roanoke, Virginia; Spokane, Washington; St.
Paul, Minnesota; Ventura County, California; and
Washington, D.C.

The report is available online and can be downloaded for
free at www.huduser.gov/periodicals/ushmc.html or
ordered at no cost from the HUD USER Clearinghouse by
