AHS Updates: 2009 Documentation, 2007 CINCH

There have been two updates to the American Housing Survey files on the HUD USER web site:

1. AHS 2009 Documentation Update

The Instrument Items Booklet is a document that lists all of the questions and responses in the computerized AHS survey instrument.  Through a mistake on my part, the document on the 2009 AHS web page (https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html) was in fact the booklet for the Spanish-language instrument.  That link has been corrected to point to the English-language booklet, and a separate link has been added for the Spanish version.

2. 2007 Components of Inventory Change (CINCH) and Rental Dynamics

The CINCH project uses the longitudinal features of the AHS to trace changes in the housing stock from one survey to the next.  The closely related Rental Dynamics project focuses on changes in rental unit affordability.  All reports based on the 2007 national and metropolitan AHS are now available on the web site.  In addition, the CINCH datasets are available for download in SAS and ASCII formats.  The datasets provide the special longitudinal weights used in CINCH, and they have variables that summarize the way the units changed between the 2007 survey and the previous one.  These datasets can be linked to the regular AHS datasets, so that you can produce CINCH or Rental Dynamics tabulations using all of the regular AHS data.

The URLs for the CINCH websites are:

National:  https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/cinch.html#2005-2007
Metropolitan:  https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/cinch.html
