The Alterations & Repairs tables from the 2007 American Housing Survey (AHS) metropolitan surveys are now available as Excel or PDF files from the Census Bureau web site:

http://www.census.gov/hhes/www/housing/ahs/ahs07metro-areas/metro-alt-replace.html

The AHS includes an extensive module on alterations and repairs, including 11 categories and 40 specific job types.  The tabulations of this information are available only online.  The seven metro areas include Baltimore, Boston, Houston, Miami, Minneapolis, Tampa, and Washington DC.
