Subject: AHS Documentation Update

The HUD USER web page for the 2002 AHS (
https://www.huduser.gov/datasets/ahs.html ) now has a link to
download a value label package. This package will allow SAS users to attach
formats to most of the AHS character variables, translating the various codes
into English labels. Since the format definitions themselves are in a text
file, non-SAS users may find them useful for copying and pasting value labels
into whatever statistical package you use.

As I type this, the link on the AHS 2002 page says "AHS 2001 Value Labels
File." The "2001" part is a typo, which will no doubt be corrected shortly.

We have also updated the ASCII data dictionary to use the information from the
latest release of the codebook. You can download that directly from
https://www.huduser.gov/datasets/ahs/data_dictionary.txt . There are links to
it on the 2002 and "More AHS Data and Publications" pages of the HUD USER web
site.
