Many managers. who desire to improve their organizations. confuse organizational development with management training. The difference is more than semantics. Organizational development is a planned change process using behavioral science techniques to make organizations places where individual growth efforts contribute to the achievement of organizational mission. By contrast management training focuses on the development of the competencies and attitudes of the individual. The confusion derives from the fact that organizations can effectively use some management training to foster systemic development and growth. When training is used in an organization development process it is only one instrument from a tool chest which includes: on the job training;. teambuilding. structural change, job enrichment, action research, survey feedback. conflict management, business logic ;nd management science.1
