This historical publication is a collection of profiles detailing 16 projects which received the International Year of Shelter for the Homeless (IYSH) Special Merit Awards. The IYSH was a United Nations effort to focus the world’s attention and resources on developing new shelter policies and strategies for the poor to help them achieve economic self-sufficiency. These award winning projects were nominated for the national award program by local governments, private nonprofits, and community associations.
