Developing Affordable Housing Through Faith-Based Partnerships


In September 2021, Enterprise Community Partners hosted a virtual event titled “Developing Affordable Housing & Community Facilities in Partnership With Faith Communities,” during which three panelists discussed successful examples of faith-based communities acting as affordable housing developers in the Washington D.C. metro area. The speakers explored the activities of Enterprise’s Faith-Based Development Initiative which has developed more than 1,500 units of affordable housing in the region.

Message from PD&R Leadership:
NAHASDA at 25
In the leadership message, general deputy assistant secretary for PD&R Todd Richardson discusses the Native American Housing and Self-Determination Act of 1996 (NAHASDA) and the Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG). This month marks the anniversary of the signing of NAHASDA, which created IHBG, the primary source of federal housing funds for more than 500 tribes. This October, Richardson participated in a panel discussion at the National Congress of American Indians conference, during which panelists discussed the 2020 census results and their impact on resource allocation to federal programs including IHBG.

Denver’s Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative Breaks the Incarceration-Homelessness Cycle
Denver, Colorado's five-year Supportive Housing Social Impact Bond Initiative (Denver SIB) used $8.6 million in start-up funds provided by private and philanthropic investors to build a program of housing and supportive services to address chronic homelessness and use of the city’s emergency systems. The program, which used a Pay for Success model of funding in which investors are paid only if the program’s pre-determined goals are attained, successfully reduced homelessness, participant time in jail, and participant use of emergency healthcare resources.

Fulfilling a Mission To Serve Families at Risk of Experiencing Homelessness
Cahill Place, a 40-unit permanent supportive housing development serving Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, operates on a multigenerational model to help at-risk families avoid homelessness and achieve stability. Developer Center City Housing opened the nearly $13 million project in 2020 adjacent to the mission-driven River Heights Vineyard Church. The church contributed land to Cahill Place, considering this donation part of its spiritual work in the community.
