This page provides downloadable public use files for the data used in the AFFH Data and Mapping Tool (AFFH-T).

The AFFH-T is a free, interactive mapping and planning tool for analyzing affordable housing, demographics and measures of opportunity across localities and regions covering all U.S. States, Washington DC, and Puerto Rico. The AFFH-T is intended to inform state and local housing and community development agencies, housing advocates, researchers, and the general public.

The tool compiles data from a wide variety of sources, including the decennial U.S. Census, the American Community Survey and HUD’s Comprehensive Housing Affordability Strategies (CHAS) data.

The most recent release (AFFHT007) is from December 2024 and is provided below on this landing page. Previous versions of the data (AFFHT-0001 through 006), which were updated continuously from 2015 through 2020 are provided under the Previous Years tab.

Each AFFH-T data release has an accompanying downloadable data file that can be used for supplementary analyses. Each of the raw data files is a zipfile, with a data dictionary, crosswalk files, and multiple CSV/Excel files at the block group, tract, jurisdiction, region, and other levels.

PHA Supplemental Data

In addition, for the public use data version AFFHT-0007, HUD prepared the following set of additional supplemental tables for public housing agencies with 2,000 or more units of combined public housing units and Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers. There is a brief explanation and list of the supplemental PHA tables included in the data file.
