AHS 2013 Beta PUF Announcement

Beta versions of the 2013 American Housing Survey public use files (PUFs) are available for download from the HUD USER website (https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html#AHSpuf). The available files are:

  • AHS 2013 National PUF V.BETA (SAS and CSV)

  • AHS 2013 Metro PUF V.BETA (SAS and CSV)

  • AHS 2013 BETA PUF User's Guide (pdf)

  • AHS 2013 Items Booklet (Questionnaire)

Please note that these are beta versions of the data, intended to let you get a first look and help us find any errors. You should not use these files for any publications or research, as they are subject to change. Some variables are still missing from the datasets, including the replicate weights and the split weights (for use with some topical modules). See the User's Guide for more details.

One specific point that you should note is that there are once again separate datasets for the national and metropolitan surveys, unlike the combined file that was used in the 2011 PUF.

By all means, notify HUD of any anomalies that you find in the data so that we can investigate them further. All such questions should be sent to Shawn Bucholtz, shawn.j.bucholtz@hud.gov.

We hope to have versions of the PUFs available by October 1, 2014.
