Service Year + Higher Education: Innovation Challenge Dissemination
[The following announcement has been sent by your friends in HUD's Office of University Partnerships on behalf of the Franklin Project, the National Conference on Citizenship, and the Corporation for National and Community Service.]
As you know, service learning shows that service tied to education outcomes is a powerful way to motivate students, help them apply what they have learned, and gain the experience, skills, and connections they need to find employment after graduation. A movement to make a service year a common expectation and opportunity in America is underway.
It is with great pleasure that the Franklin Project, the National Conference on Citizenship, and the Corporation for National and Community Service announce the Service Year + Higher Ed Challenge — an effort that challenges higher education institutions to create innovative new service year opportunities connected to academic credit for students. All post-secondary education institutions are encouraged to apply by March 6, 2015 and compete for $100,000 in prizes made available from the generous support of the Lumina Foundation.
Please join us in promoting the integration of learning and service during the college experience with your members and consitutencies. For more information, including how to apply, visit SYChallenge.
Yours in Service,
