HUD's Safety Net Responsibilities in Times of Crisis
In the leadership message, Assistant Secretary for PD&R Seth D. Appleton discusses the role of HUD's programs in times of crisis such as the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Appleton discusses recent legislation and policy changes, such as the Federal Housing Administration's 60-day moratorium on evictions and foreclosures.

Steady Employment Growth and Tight Home Sales Market Conditions in the Omaha HMA
The latest article in a series focusing on HUD's Comprehensive Housing Market Analyses examines the Omaha-Council Bluffs Housing Market Area (Omaha HMA). Encompassing eight counties in Iowa and Nebraska, the Omaha HMA is a regional hub with an estimated population of just under one million people. Nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase 1.4 percent annually, the housing sales market is tight, and the rental housing market is balanced. This analysis was undertaken before the COVID-19 pandemic began and does not account for its impacts.

Replacing Aging Public Housing in Birmingham, Alabama
By 2014, the Housing Authority of Birmingham District's 500-unit Loveman Village had been providing affordable housing in the Titusville neighborhood of Birmingham, Alabama, for over 60 years. After so long in service, the aging barracks-style complex had a number of serious problems that had left nearly half of its units vacant. That year, the authority recruited Hollyhand Development to begin a three-phase redevelopent of Loveman Village. Two of the 3 phases have been completed, and now provide 240 spacious, modern units of affordable housing.
