Habitat for Humanity Hosts Home Affordability Symposium


As part of its ongoing Cost of Home campaign, Habitat for Humanity hosted a symposium titled "Local Voices Informing Federal Action: A symposium on home affordability," in February 2020. During the plenary panel event, three speakers examined strategies to improve housing affordability through housing production and policy. Lisa Gordon, president and chief executive officer of Atlanta Habitat for Humanity, moderated the discussion.

A Memorandum of Understanding between HUD and Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Housing
In the leadership message, director of PD&R's International and Philanthropic Affairs Division Cynthia Campbell discusses a HUD delegation's recent trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to sign an official Memorandum of Understanding. The memorandum formalizes an agreement between HUD and the Saudi Ministry of Housing that has been in development since 2017, when a delegation led by minister of housing Majid Al-Hogail visited the United States.

Slow Growth as U.S. Virgin Islands Recover From 2017 Hurricanes
The latest article in a series focusing on HUD's Comprehensive Housing Market Analyses examines the U.S. Virgin Islands. Consisting of two islands in the Caribbean Sea approximately forty miles east of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands have an estimated population of 101,900. The islands were struck by two hurricanes in September 2017, which caused an estimated $10.8 billion in damages and closed many business, schools, and healthcare facilities. As of 2019, jobs on the islands are recovering, the housing sales market is balanced, and the housing rental market is tight.

Catholic Charities Providing Affordable Housing for Families and Seniors in Phoenix, Arizona
Rosewood Court is an 85-unit development serving low-income families and seniors in Phoenix, Arizona. Built in two phases that were completed in 2017 and 2018 respectively, the 10-building development consists of a 50-unit family section and a 35-unit senior section. Regional housing nonprofit Housing for Hope, the development affiliate of the local office of Catholic Charities, undertook the $19.6 million project on a property located near light rail approximately one mile from its headquarters.
