Ongoing Trends in the Housing Economy


In January 2020, the National Housing Conference hosted a webinar titled "Outlook for the 2020 Housing Economy." The three speakers, each chief economists within their respective organizations, discussed economic forecasts and the impacts that projected changes are expected to have on the housing market. The panel was moderated by NHC CEO David M. Dworkin.

Measuring Disaster Preparedness with 2017 AHS Data
In the leadership message, director of PD&R's housing and demographic analysis division Shawn Bucholtz discusses the 2017 American Housing Survey (AHS) results as they relate to disaster preparedness. According to the survey, there are disparities in the level of preparedness between households in different geographic regions, households of different age groups, and renter verses owner households. The AHS began asking questions about preparedness in 2013, and revised the questions with assistance from FEMA in 2017.

Willow Terrace Provides Housing and Services for Individuals With Severe Mental Health Challenges in Ukiah, California
Opened in 2019 in rural Ukiah, California, Willow Terrace is a 38-unit apartment development for low-income individuals with severe mental health challenges. Ukiah, which is located in Mendocino County, has suffered damage from a series of wildfires that began in 2015, which further reduced the limited housing supply for the area. In 2016, the Rural Communities Housing Development Corporation and the county began work to develop Willow Terrace, which offers wraparound services in addition to housing.
