The Office of University Partnerships (OUP), based out
of HUD's Office of Policy Development and Research, is
announcing the first issue of Diversity Works. The
semiannual newsletter is dedicated to celebrating the
accomplishments of minority-based programs funded by
OUP. The periodical combines three individual
newsletters for each of three programs - Historically
Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU), Hispanic-Serving
Institutions Assisting Communities (HSIAC), and Alaska
Native/Native Hawaiian Institutions Assisting
Communities (AN/NHIAC). The driving force behind these
periodicals is a recognition that many minority-based
institutions have common experiences that need to be
shared across program boundaries.

OUP also has a new monograph available, Scholarship in
Action, that explores the use of community and
university research partnerships in addressing local
issues. It features the experiences of academic
researchers in community-based projects, the benefits of
applied research, and some of the problems encountered
along the way. The monograph includes examples of
research that illustrate how community-university
partnerships succeed; a process that often involves
identifying and capitalizing on the needs and interests
they share.

Both documents are available online and can be
downloaded for no cost
at www.oup.org/files/pubs/newsletter/Diversity1-1.pdf
and www.oup.org/files/pubs/scholarship.pdf. Subscriptions
to Diversity Works will be automatic for those already
receiving the HBCU, HSIAC, and AN/NHIAC newsletters;
others wishing to receive the new publication free of
charge may call the Office of University Partnerships
Clearinghouse at 1-800-245-2691, Option 3, or send an
email with your name, title (if appropriate), and
mailing address to oup@oup.org under the subject line
