Studies in Assisted Housing

A new issue of Cityscape is available! This special issue
contains ten leading-edge studies on households receiving
housing assistance from HUD. This selection of research
studies uses a variety of theoretical and practitioners'
tools to answer questions asked by policymakers and the
public about housing assistance programs. The authors
bring a wide array of perspectives - from urban planning,
architecture, economics, political science, sociology,
and real estate - in responding to these inquiries.
Typical questions addressed are: To what extent are
recipients' rents an acceptable burden relative to their
incomes? To what extent do Housing Choice Program
recipients find rental housing in better neighborhoods
than where they formerly lived? How does housing
assistance relate to household composition? Other
questions explored in this issue deal with how housing
assistance relates to length of stay in programs, the
relationship between housing assistance and dependency,
and the nature of the relationship between housing
assistance and employment.
