Beginning in 2005, the American Housing Survey has used a
regression-based method for imputing missing values among the income
variable.  This method allows the use of more explanatory variables than
conventional matrix approaches.  A paper explaining this method,
"Imputation via Triangular Regression-
Based Hot Deck" has just been posted to the HUD USER web site,
https://www.huduser.gov/portal/datasets/ahs.html .  You will find the
paper in the "Technical Supplements" section.  This paper was written by
Scott Susin of the US Census Bureau, who designed the procedure.
