2015 American Housing Survey (AHS) Metropolitan Sample Design, Weighting, and Error Estimation

Following the release of the 2015 American Housing Survey (AHS) Public Use Files, the U.S. Census Bureau has posted the "2015 AHS Metropolitan Sample Design, Weighting, and Error Estimation." The document describes the sample design, weighting, and error estimation for the 2015 AHS Metropolitan Sample.

As a reminder, in 2015, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau selected an entirely new sample for the AHS. The 2015 AHS sample is composed of an integrated National sample and independent metropolitan area samples (hereafter referred to as "Metro"). The independent Metro samples include—

  • Representative samples of each of the 15 largest metropolitan areas, which are also included in the integrated National sample.
  • Representative samples of 10 extra metropolitan areas, which are not included anywhere in the National sample.
