A San Francisco District Begins to Reduce Blight

The New York Times (3/14, Tannenbaum, Subscription Publication, 1.23M) reports that the decline of San Francisco's Bayview neighborhood "was hastened by the decommissioning of the shipyard in the 1970s. A succession of San Francisco mayors -- including Dianne Feinstein, Willie Brown and Gavin Newsom -- sought to revitalize the area," to no avail. For several "decades, Bayview remained blighted with abandoned warehouses and railroad tracks to nowhere." Now, however, a $75 million development is helping to reduce blight in the neighborhood.
