Salt Lake Library Aims To Help Homeless Patrons

The Salt Lake (UT) Tribune (4/2, Fulton) reports, “In a new program introduced this month,” Salt Lake City Public Library system “will begin working with Salt Lake County Human Services, the Utah Department of Workforce Services and Salt Lake City police to direct patrons to social services including homeless shelters, mental health counseling or substance-abuse prevention programs.” Julianne Hancock, a spokeswoman for the library, emphasized that this would occur only with people’s consent. She added, “We’re not forcing services down anyone’s throat. … Everyone’s welcome here.”
