Businesses statewide have received $54.7 million in help

Four Moonachie-based businesses and a company from Little Ferry were the most recent North Jersey firms to be selected by the New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) as recipients of its Stronger N.J. business grants on Wednesday.

One other Moonachie-based company was approved for a Stronger N.J. business loan.

The grants, totaling about $4.1 million, have been awarded to more than 40 Bergen County businesses, and are meant to be used to help rebuild businesses affected by Superstorm Sandy, which slammed the state on Oct. 29, 2012.

"While the focus this week has been on the Shore towns and the start of the summer tourism season, it’s important to remember that businesses in Sandy-impacted areas throughout the state are recovering," EDA Chief Executive Officer Michele Brown said in a news release.

The Moonachie-based businesses that obtained the grants were Ressa’s Meadowlands Cleaners; Dolce Novita Restaurant; Rug Depot; and Frolick Brass, a wholesale importer.

The Stronger N.J. grants are funded through New Jersey’s Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery allocation from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
