$15.1 Million in Affordable Housing Grants Awarded.

The Indian Country Today Media Network (7/1, Walker) reports, "The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded $15 million to 12 tribal governments in Washington state to help address local affordable housing needs. The grants were part of nearly $210 million in Indian Housing Block Grants made to 146 tribal governments in 25 states across the country." Mary McBride, HUD's Northwest Region administrator commented, "Just as there is a pressing need for more affordable housing in America's cities and towns, there is a need on tribal lands." She added that the grants will help tribes find "creative...ways" to addressing those needs. Funding from the grants can be used toward developing housing and affordable housing solutions, as well as providing housing services to eligible families.
