Freeport Awarded $295K Federal Community Grant

The Journal Standard (IL) (12/16, Jones) reports that HUD "awarded nearly $300,000 to the City of Freeport for improving its economic competitiveness by connecting housing with good jobs, quality schools and transportation." The funding was a Community Challenge grant that aims "to reduce barriers to affordable, economically vital and sustainable communities." HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan is quoted saying, "These grants will be leveraged with local funds, more than doubling the investment and helping to create new visions for how communities and regions plan for housing, transportation, workforce development and the quality of life for generations to come."
