Overview

The Rental Policy Working Group (RWPG), established in early 2010 by the Domestic Policy Council, facilitates improved interagency coordination of Federal rental policy among USDA, HUD, and the Treasury. In July of 2010, the group gathered rental policy stakeholders at the White House to develop ideas to promote cost savings and reduce regulatory burden for owners and developers of affordable rental housing. From the meeting in July 2011, the RPWG created a framework to address 10 initiatives for implementation. The initiatives are outlined in the RPWG’s report released in December 2011 which can be found at the link below. Since then, the RPWG has begun implementing the report’s recommendations, including coordinating alignment pilots with state housing agencies on two initiatives — physical inspections and subsidy layering review — in ten different states

This summer’s conference will be used to describe initial findings from the pilots, to review early achievements of all alignment initiatives, and to seek feedback on how to sustain efforts intended to promote cost savings and reduce regulatory burden at all levels of government for owners and developers of affordable housing.
