Since 2009, "housing as a platform"—emphasizing the connection between housing stability and quality and important health, educational, and economic outcomes—has been a key strategic direction for HUD. In addition to the important efforts of HUD’s programs and partnerships with other federal agencies and in participation with the How Housing Matters initiative, we have considered how housing quality and stability impacts a variety of populations. Evidence exists that a wide range of child outcomes are closely aligned with housing and neighborhood quality among them physical health, behavioral and emotional welfare, school achievement, and economic opportunity.
