Fair Housing Remains an Issue in Glendale

The Glendale News Press (3/8) reports, "In the past, race has been one of the biggest issues when it came to fair housing impediments in Glendale, but now people with disabilities and large families face greater discrimination, according to a recent report to the city's Housing Authority." This "shift follows cultural changes that came with significant growth in Glendale's foreign-born population, especially Armenian, and a protracted recession that turned the housing market upside-down." Veronica Tam, a consultant who created the Fair Housing Impediment Analysis, pointed out this change parallels national trends. Cities are required to conduct such an analysis every five years in order to get federal funding. Once HUD "receives the report, it may periodically assess how the city is responding to discrimination."
