The Wall Street Journal (3/21, Wotapka, Pruitt, Subscription Publication, 2.08M) reports on the newest manufactured homes, which are constructed to resemble traditional houses. They include wood cabinets and granite countertops, as well as drywall. The Journal says that the industry is hopeful that consumers' outlook on these homes has improved, and that people who have been disappointed by the housing market will turn to these pre-fabricated homes. Data show that there is growing interested in the homes, which cost about $64,000 last December, compared to $264,000 for the average traditional home.
