This historical report was produced by the National Commission on American Indian, Alaska Native, and Native Hawaiian Housing under Public Law 101-235. The goal of the commission was to evaluate factors currently impeding the development of safe and affordable housing for Native Americans and to evaluate strategies for the development, management, and modernization of their housing. This is the final report to the Secretary of HUD and the U.S. Congress. The reports covers over 200 years of federal Indian policy, existing programs, impediments to housing, and finishes with recommendations for the future.
